Sunyi: Devon’s one goal is to protect her son, who is a little (lot) different from the other ‘eaters in their society.
DJ: Could you briefly tell us a little about your main characters? Do they have any cool quirks or habits, or any reason why readers with sympathize with them? Sunyi: The Victorian fairytales of George MacDonald, the Brontë sisters, ‘classic’ English literature, 90s culture, and various landscapes in England and Scotland (both urban and rural). DJ: What were some of your influences for The Book Eaters ? The stakes are small and personal, and I chose to focus on the arc of an individual rather than a broad-scale conflict. On the other hand, it’s not about those people at all, but one specific woman who is trying to escape that society. On one hand, it’s about a secret society of people who eat books and how they survive in the world. I need to ask honestly to the fellow members of the female gender, ARE THEY ALL LIKE THIS? Why do I have to tell him every time I need something done, is it against the male anatomy to just like.Sunyi: TBE has a kind of dual-story happening.
Here's the kicker, he still didn't see why I was mad, as he's tossing out the classic *I have a penis so I am too clueless to see the house is messy* excuses "I don't even see what you just cleaned" "Why does that matter nobody is coming over" "I literally don't understand why you're freaking out, it's not even messy in here". I'm literally screaming at the top of my lungs, i'm trowing boxes, there isn't a piece of lose clothing that's safe from getting whip-lashed into his face. The following events I can say, maybe i'm not proud of, maybe. Little did I know, it was down hill from there.ħ:41 PM: I'm making the bed and at this point my face must have been so red with rage cause he walked in the bedroom (good one genius) and looked at me like I was a regular Charles Mansion and goes "well if you wanted help with the bed you could have just asked" *QUE THE CANNONS* yeah okay I lost it on him. On March 17th, he asked me to marry him and I enthusiastically said yes. We had already been dating for a little over a year, and we had frequently talked about getting married and having a life together. Fast forwarding to March of this year, I went to go visit him during my spring break. Our relationship had its ups and downs, but c'mon who's doesn't? Seeing him only a few times a year was tough, but I knew that the distance wouldn't stop us form being together. I stuck by his side through his three month long basic training, as well as him moving half way across the country to Seattle while I went to school in Alabama. I consider myself a woman of God, and so since I had been battling some troubling things, I felt that God sent him to relieve me of those troubles. I had battled depression for several years, so the feelings he gave me made all my issues disappear. I was dating a young man in the Army, and from the moment I met him I knew I was in love with him.
